Mitchell Sentenced to Nearly 10 Years in Meth Case

Jackson County prosecutors said the case followed a 2020 MADGE investigation in Central Point.

original sentencing hearing in Fall 2023. His failure to appear and attempt to avoid accountability
directly contributed to the imposition of the maximum sentence.

MEDFORD, Ore. — Nearly six years after a Jackson County drug investigation began in Central Point, Allen Dale Mitchell has been sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison.

Mitchell, 62, was sentenced Tuesday to 116 months in prison for unlawful delivery of methamphetamine, according to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office. The sentence was imposed by Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Kelly Ravassipour and will be followed by three years of post-prison supervision.

Mitchell previously entered a no contest plea to the charge.

Prosecutors said the sentence was the maximum Mitchell could receive under Oregon felony sentencing guidelines.

The case began in August 2020 with an investigation led by the Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement team, known as MADGE. That investigation led to a search warrant at Mitchell’s Central Point residence and a search of his vehicle, where investigators seized more than two pounds of methamphetamine, according to the district attorney’s office.

The case was delayed after Mitchell failed to appear for his original sentencing hearing in fall 2023. Prosecutors said he remained on warrant status for almost three years.

The district attorney’s office said Mitchell’s “failure to appear and attempt to avoid accountability” directly contributed to the maximum sentence.

In announcing the sentence, the office also credited MADGE investigators for their “diligence, hard work and persistence” in the case, saying their work helped prosecutors “finally bring Mitchell to justice.”

The sentencing hearing was handled by Deputy District Attorney Alicia Wilson.
