Jefferson Daily FAQ
What do you want to know?
Frequently Asked Questions.
Why did you change the name from HiveWire Daily?
We wanted the name to better reflect the region we serve.
HiveWire Daily helped us bring independent local news back to life, but the name did not clearly say where we were from or who we were here for. Jefferson Daily News gives the publication a stronger regional identity rooted in Southern Oregon and Northern California.
The branding is changing. The mission is not.
What does “Jefferson” mean?
For generations, many people have used “Jefferson” to describe the broader region surrounding the Oregon and California border.
For us, Jefferson is not about politics. It is about place. It reflects the geography, culture, landscapes, communities, and shared stories of Southern Oregon and Northern California.
This is a region connected by highways, weather, wildfire seasons, public lands, small towns, schools, sports, working families, and stories that often do not stop at the state line.
Didn’t you just change your name?
Yes, and that is a fair question.
Klamath Falls News was our original local news brand. After that publication was sunset, the need for independent local news did not go away. In the summer of 2025, HiveWire Daily was launched using the foundation and experience of Klamath Falls News, while expanding coverage beyond the Klamath Basin.
As the publication grew, it became clear that HiveWire Daily did not fully reflect the region we serve. Jefferson Daily News is the next step — a name that better fits the coverage, the communities, and the long-term direction of the newsroom.
Who owns Jefferson Daily News?
Jefferson Daily News is part of Jefferson Media Group and is owned and operated by Gailey Company LLC. The ownership has not changed.
Is Jefferson Daily News still independent?
Yes. Jefferson Daily News remains locally owned and independent. We are not owned by a national newspaper chain, political organization, government agency, or outside media group.

Will the newsletter change?
The newsletter will continue, but the branding, sender information, and email details may change as part of the transition.
Readers can expect the same general coverage and the same commitment to free, accessible regional news.
Will Jefferson Daily News still be free?
Yes. Jefferson Daily News remains committed to providing free access to regional news for Southern Oregon and Northern California.
How should agencies, schools, organizations, and community partners send news tips or releases?
During the transition, existing HiveWire Daily contacts may continue to work. New Jefferson Daily News contact information will also be shared publicly as the transition moves forward.
The simplest rule is this: same ownership, same coverage, new name, new domain, and updated email addresses.
What is Jefferson Daily News’ AI policy?
