Jefferson Daily News is a free, independent regional news organization serving eight counties across Southern Oregon and Northern California. We report on the issues, emergencies, people, and places that connect this region, from the Rogue Valley and Klamath Basin to the coast and communities across the California border.

Our work is built around a simple promise: useful, verified local and regional news should be easy to find and free to read. We cover public safety, wildfire, weather, local government, schools, business, the outdoors, and the everyday stories that help people better understand their communities.

Jefferson Daily is the flagship publication of Jefferson Media Group and home to specialized coverage including Jefferson Firewatch, Jefferson Weather, Jefferson Outdoors, Jefferson Sports, and Jefferson Spotlighter.

Our mission is to make trusted, independent regional journalism easy to find, free to read, and useful when it matters most across Southern Oregon and Northern California.

OUR JOURNEY

Jefferson Daily News grew from more than a decade of local news and community coverage.

Beginning in 2013 as Klamath Falls News, we served Klamath Basin communities with trusted reporting. As that coverage expanded across the region, the publication became HiveWire Daily in 2025 and Jefferson Daily News in 2026, creating a permanent regional news brand built around the people, places, and stories that connect Southern Oregon and Northern California.

The name and reach have evolved, but the central commitment remains the same: provide free, honest, and useful regional news people can rely on.

WHAT WE COVER

Jefferson Daily News covers the everyday stories and major developments that shape life across Southern Oregon and Northern California.

That includes public safety, wildfire, weather, road conditions, education, health, local government, community events, business, outdoors, arts and culture, and regional sports.

Some days, that means a breaking public safety update. Other days, it means a wildfire resource residents need quickly, a road closure affecting travel, a team making a playoff run, or a local story that deserves more attention.

Southern Oregon and Northern California are connected in ways that do not stop at city, county or state lines. A wildfire, weather shift, highway closure, school announcement, public safety incident or community celebration can matter across the region.

That is why we focus on the bigger regional picture.

Our reporting draws from direct interviews, public records, official documents, firsthand information, verified statements, and agency updates. We clearly separate confirmed facts from what remains unknown and update developing stories as reliable information becomes available.

Not every story has to be loud to matter. Sometimes the most useful news simply helps people understand what is happening around them.
