About Jefferson Daily News

Local. Independent. Regional.

Jefferson Daily News is a free, independent news source serving Southern Oregon and Northern California.

We cover the stories people talk about at work, share with neighbors, follow during fire season, check before the morning commute, and look for when something is happening in their community. From Medford, Klamath Falls, Grants Pass, Ashland, and Yreka to the smaller towns and rural areas in between, our goal is simple: help people stay informed about the region they call home.

Jefferson Daily News was built on the belief that local and regional news still matters. People deserve clear, useful, fact-based information without having to fight through paywalls, political noise, or clickbait to find it.

That is why our news is always free to read.

Our Journey

Klamath Falls News > HiveWire Daily > Jefferson Daily News

Jefferson Daily News grew out of the work and community trust built through Klamath Falls News and the expansion of HiveWire Daily.

Klamath Falls News began in 2013 with a strong local focus and a commitment to sharing timely, useful information with the Klamath Basin community. Over time, the audience grew and coverage expanded throughout the quad county region, including Klamath, Lake, Modoc, and eastern Siskiyou counties.

In 2025, Klamath Falls News became HiveWire Daily, expanding across Southern Oregon and Northern California. The coverage grew, but the name did not fully connect with the region or clearly explain who we were here to serve.

That led us to Jefferson.

For generations, many people have used “Jefferson” to describe the broader region and political issues surrounding the Oregon and California border. For us, Jefferson is not about politics. It is about place. It reflects the geography, culture, landscapes, communities, and shared stories of Southern Oregon and Northern California.

This region is connected by highways, weather, wildfire seasons, public lands, small towns, schools, sports, working families, and stories that often do not stop at the state line.

In 2026, Jefferson Daily News was born with the same mission: free, honest, useful regional news rooted in the communities we serve.

What We Cover

Jefferson Daily News covers the everyday stories and major updates that shape life across Southern Oregon and Northern California.

That includes public safety, wildfire, weather, road conditions, education, health, local government, community events, business, outdoors, arts and culture, and regional sports.

Some days, that means a breaking public safety update. Other days, it means a wildfire resource residents need quickly, a road closure affecting travel, a team making a playoff run, or a local story that deserves more attention.

Southern Oregon and Northern California are connected in ways that do not stop at city, county, or state lines. A wildfire, weather shift, highway closure, school announcement, public safety incident, or community celebration can matter across the region.

That is why we focus on the bigger regional picture.

We work from official sources, verified statements, press releases, public records, and direct information whenever possible. When a story is still developing, we aim to be clear about what is confirmed, what is unknown, and where readers can find official updates.

Not every story has to be loud to matter. Sometimes the most useful news simply helps people understand what is happening around them.
