Man Sought After Grants Pass Assault Arrested Within 24 Hours (UPDATED)
Police credit ALPR technology and regional law enforcement partnerships with helping investigators locate the suspect

Michael Brinen Cutts, 40, was arrested without incident at approximately 6:40 p.m. Friday, less than 24 hours after Grants Pass police identified him as a person of interest in the major assault on Southridge Way.
Cutts was lodged at the Josephine County Jail on charges including Assault II, Burglary I, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Contempt of Court..
Grants Pass police credited automated license plate reader technology, along with assistance from the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police, with significantly shortening the search for Cutts. Police did not provide additional details about how the ALPR technology was used.
The department also thanked community members who followed the case and provided assistance.
GRANTS PASS, Ore. — Grants Pass police are asking for the public’s help locating a man detectives want to question following a major assault Thursday evening that left another man seriously injured.
Grants Pass 911 received an emergency call shortly before 8 p.m. Aug. 13 reporting an assault on Southridge Way.
Police said the victim suffered serious injuries and was transported to Three Rivers Community Hospital.
Patrol officers and detectives with the Grants Pass Police Department Major Crimes Unit responded to both the scene and the hospital as the investigation began.
Detectives are now attempting to locate Michael Brinen Cutts, 40, for questioning in connection with the investigation.
Police have not announced any charges against Cutts or provided additional details about what led to the assault.
The investigation remains ongoing.
