Falcons Stay Perfect in League Play

Klamath Falls swept North Jackson on Tuesday and opened July at 10-0 in Area 4.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — The Klamath Falls Falcons have carried a perfect Area 4 record into July, using a Tuesday doubleheader sweep of North Jackson to stay on top of the American Legion baseball standings.

Klamath Falls beat the Royals 12-1 and 13-3 at Kiger Stadium, improving to 10-0 in league play and 16-2 overall. The Falcons opened July ahead of Central Point, which entered the month 9-3 in Area 4 play and 12-4 overall.

For a Klamath Falls team built from several Basin and nearby high school programs, the first half of the season has been steady and sharp. The roster includes players from Henley, Mazama, Klamath Union, Lost River, Lakeview and Modoc, giving the Falcons a wide local footprint during the summer baseball season.

On Tuesday, the Falcons leaned on two complete-game pitching performances and two big offensive innings to finish the sweep.

In the opener, Corbin Hamilton went the distance, allowing one run on three hits while striking out seven and walking one in five innings. Klamath Falls jumped out quickly with four runs in the first inning, including a two-run single from PJ Safford.

The Falcons broke the game open with an eight-run third inning. Trustin Thomas and Carson Siems each delivered two-run doubles, helping Klamath Falls turn the opener into a 12-1 win.

Siems finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two walks, while Hamilton added two RBIs at the plate. Jacoby Tacchini also drove in three runs for the Falcons.

Klamath Falls kept rolling in Game 2, answering a three-run North Jackson second inning with five runs of its own in the bottom half before adding six more in the fourth.

Thomas delivered the biggest swing of the second game, lining a bases-clearing triple during the Falcons’ six-run fourth inning. He finished with four RBIs in the 13-3 win.

Hunter Glidden pitched the complete game for Klamath Falls, striking out seven while allowing five hits and two earned runs over five innings. Kollin Tacchini added a double and a triple, while Corbin Hamilton doubled and scored three times.

The sweep strengthened Klamath Falls’ position in the Area 4 race. As of July 1, the Falcons led the standings at 10-0, followed by Central Point at 9-3, South Medford and North Medford both at 7-5, Phoenix at 2-6, Grants Pass at 2-8 and North Jackson at 2-10.

Klamath Falls is scheduled to host Phoenix/Cascade Christian at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in an Area 4 doubleheader at Kiger Stadium before heading to the Roseburg tournament July 2-5.

The Falcons’ July schedule also includes league doubleheaders against South Medford, North Medford, Grants Pass, Central Point and the state tournament later in the month.
