KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — The Klamath Falls Falcons came within one game of a Northwest championship, finishing runner-up at the American Legion Northwest Class A Regional Tournament in Casper, Wyoming, and closing one of the strongest seasons in recent program history with 40 victories.
Klamath Falls battled through a difficult road at Mike Lansing Field, recovering from an opening loss, winning two must-win pool games, and knocking off Oregon champion Eugene in the semifinal before falling 11-1 to Utah champion Cache Valley in Monday’s regional title game.
It was the second consecutive season the Falcons reached the Northwest regional championship game.
The Falcons finished the summer 40-8 after a season that included a perfect Area 4 campaign, an Oregon state runner-up finish, and another deep regional run.
The regional tournament did not start the way Klamath Falls hoped.
Burley, Idaho, built an 11-4 advantage before the Falcons erupted for five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Klamath Falls brought the potential tying run to the plate before the rally ended in an 11-9 loss.
The Falcons still finished with 13 hits. Carson Siems and Chase Barrett each scored twice, while Jacoby Tacchini collected two hits and drove in two runs.
That opening loss immediately put pressure on Klamath Falls.
Facing Sheridan, Wyoming, the Falcons responded with six runs in the second inning and built an 8-0 advantage on the way to an 11-6 win.
Seven of Klamath Falls’ 12 hits were doubles. Siems, Barrett, and Jacoby Tacchini each had two doubles, while Hunter Glidden earned the win and P.J. Safford closed the door with 2⅔ innings of scoreless relief and six strikeouts.
That left the Falcons with an unusually specific challenge against unbeaten Cache Valley in their final pool game. Klamath Falls needed not only to win, but also to hold the Wolverines to fewer than four runs to advance.
Kollin Tacchini delivered.
Tacchini threw a complete game, striking out nine as Klamath Falls defeated Cache Valley 6-1 and secured a place in the regional semifinal. The Falcons managed only two hits, but capitalized on seven Cache Valley errors and did exactly what was required to stay alive.

The semifinal brought a familiar opponent.
Eugene Ole Athletics had beaten Klamath Falls 2-1 for the Oregon Class A championship less than two weeks earlier. This time, the Falcons turned the rematch decisively in their favor.
Klamath Falls built a 6-0 lead before Eugene rallied with five runs in the fifth inning. Rather than letting the game slip away, the Falcons answered with five runs of their own in the sixth and pulled away for a 12-6 victory.
Ian Meyer drove in a season-high six runs, including a two-run double that opened the scoring. Kollin Tacchini delivered the biggest swing of the sixth with a two-out triple, while Siems went 3-for-3 and scored three times.
Safford entered with the go-ahead run at second base in the fifth inning and followed with 2⅓ scoreless innings to earn the win.
The victory sent Klamath Falls back to the Northwest championship game for the second straight year.

Cache Valley takes the title
The Falcons’ run ended Monday against the same Cache Valley team they had defeated during pool play.
The Wolverines scored four runs in the first inning and never surrendered control, collecting 14 hits in an 11-1 victory.
Jacoby Tacchini provided Klamath Falls’ offense with two doubles, including an RBI double in the fifth inning that prevented the shutout.
The championship ended after five innings under the tournament’s 10-run rule, which allows regional games to be shortened when the required scoring margin is reached. Jefferson Daily previously reported that the rule applied throughout the Northwest tournament.
Cache Valley claimed the regional championship, while Klamath Falls finished one victory short of what would have been the Falcons’ first regional title since 1968.
A summer defined by winning
The regional runner-up finish capped a season in which winning became routine for Klamath Falls.
The Falcons finished the regular season 33-4 and went a perfect 19-0 in Area 4 play. That run included a 14-game winning streak and victories built on both explosive offense and deep pitching.
The postseason brought tougher tests.
At the Oregon Class A State Tournament in North Bend, Klamath Falls defeated Central Point 5-2 in an elimination game to secure a regional berth. Corbin Hamilton threw a complete-game four-hitter in that victory before the Falcons faced Eugene for the state title.
Klamath Falls fell 2-1 in the championship, finishing as Oregon’s runner-up while earning the state’s second berth to the Northwest Regional.
Two weeks later, the Falcons turned the tables on Eugene in Casper and reached another championship game.
From a 33-4 regular season and unbeaten Area 4 record to runner-up finishes at both the Oregon and Northwest tournaments, Klamath Falls closes 2026 at 40-8.
The regional championship ultimately remained out of reach, but the Falcons once again finished their summer playing for one.
