Status Update, 6:05pm

Avenue G has reopened as firefighters continue overhaul operations at the biomass pile fire in White City.

Jackson County Fire District 3 said several units remain at the scene while crews work to cool the pile and extinguish remaining hot spots. The fire has been contained to the vegetation piles, but firefighters expect the operation to continue for an extended period.

Earlier in the afternoon, crews used engines, an aerial ladder truck and multiple brush units during suppression efforts. A wind shift pushed smoke south and created visibility concerns near the scene.

Mutual-aid assistance was provided by Medford Fire Department, Jacksonville Fire Department, the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police.
