CENTRAL POINT, Ore. — Jackson County sheriff’s detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 62-year-old man at a rural Central Point home. A woman who had been in a relationship with the victim has been arrested on a murder charge.

Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon received a report of gunshots near the 6000 block of Kershaw Road at approximately 4:05 a.m. Wednesday, July 15.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded and found Juan Carlos Ramirez-Arango, 62, of Central Point, dead from an apparent gunshot wound inside the residence. His next of kin has been notified.

Evidence collected during the investigation led detectives to arrest Pamela Sue Maya, 67, of Central Point, according to JCSO. Maya was charged with second-degree murder and is being held in the Jackson County Jail.

The Ashland Police Department and Jackson County District Attorney’s Office assisted with the investigation. The Oregon State Police Forensics Lab processed the crime scene.
