Lightning Threat Prompts Red Flag Warning East of Cascades
A Red Flag Warning remains in effect Monday, July 6, for parts of south-central Oregon, including the Klamath Basin, Fremont-Winema National Forest and eastern Lake County. Thunderstorms could bring abundant lightning, hail and gusty winds, creating the risk of new fire starts on dry fuels.
Red Flag Warnings Issued for Abundant Lightning
Red Flag Warnings have been issued for Friday across parts of Southern Oregon and Northern California, including Klamath, Lake, Modoc and Siskiyou counties, as thunderstorms are expected to bring abundant lightning over dry fuels.
Forest Crews Monitor Lightning Fires
Firefighters on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest are monitoring for possible holdover fires after more than 2,000 lightning strikes were recorded across the forest area in 24 hours. The agency said crews responded to reported strikes and visible smoke while continuing prescribed fire work designed to reduce ground fuels under favorable spring conditions.
