Motorcyclist Killed in Highway 140 Crash Near Eagle Point
A 54-year-old Eagle Point man died Saturday evening after his motorcycle left Highway 140 and struck a guardrail in Jackson County.
JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — A motorcyclist was killed Saturday evening in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 140 east of White City, according to Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded at approximately 7:05 p.m. July 18 to the crash near milepost 6.
A preliminary investigation found that a black Yamaha motorcycle was traveling westbound when it left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a guardrail.
The rider, identified by OSP as 54-year-old Brian Jay Moore of Eagle Point, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told investigators the motorcycle had been traveling at a high rate of speed shortly before the crash, according to OSP.
The circumstances that caused the motorcycle to leave the roadway remain under investigation.
Highway 140 was impacted for approximately three hours while emergency crews worked at the scene and investigators examined the crash.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted Oregon State Police with the response.
