Former Eagle Point School Employee Sentenced to Jail, Ordered to Register as Sex Offender
Amanda Leonardo will serve 30 days in jail, spend two years on supervised probation and be required to register as a sex offender.

MEDFORD, Ore. — A former Eagle Point school employee has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and will be required to register as a sex offender following a case involving a teenage victim.
Amanda Leonardo, 40, was convicted Thursday of third-degree sexual abuse and furnishing alcohol to a person under 21, according to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.
Why 30 Days in Jail? Prosecutors said Leonardo could have faced a felony luring charge, but because she had no prior criminal convictions, Oregon sentencing guidelines would have limited the jail sentence on that felony to 30 days. The negotiated resolution imposed that same 30-day jail term while also securing a third-degree sexual abuse conviction requiring sex offender registration and allowing the victim to avoid testifying at trial.
Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Charles Kochlacs sentenced Leonardo to 30 days in jail, two years of supervised probation, sex offender treatment and other probation conditions. She will also be required to register as a sex offender.
The case began in October 2024, when the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of possible inappropriate contact between Leonardo and males believed to be under 18.
Leonardo was employed at Eagle Rock Elementary School at the time. Authorities have said the allegations were unrelated to her position with the Eagle Point School District.
According to prosecutors, the victim told investigators that contact with Leonardo began through social media before progressing to in-person meetings where she provided him with alcohol. The interactions later escalated to sexual contact.
The victim reported that he was 17 at the time.
Investigators used search warrants and other investigative methods to corroborate significant portions of the victim’s account, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Leonardo turned herself in to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 21, 2024, following a month-long investigation by the agency’s Special Victims Unit.
She was initially arrested on three counts of third-degree sexual abuse, luring a minor, tampering with physical evidence and providing alcohol to a person under 21.

Prosecutors said the case could have included a felony luring charge based on an image Leonardo sent the victim while he was under 18. However, because she had no prior criminal convictions, the maximum jail sentence under Oregon sentencing guidelines would still have been 30 days.
The District Attorney’s Office said the final resolution was reached after discussions with the victim’s family. The agreement avoided requiring the victim to testify at trial while still resulting in the maximum jail term available under the felony sentencing guidelines and mandatory sex offender registration through the third-degree sexual abuse conviction.
At sentencing, the victim’s family told the court that Leonardo had been known to their family for years and was someone their son trusted, making the abuse especially devastating.
The case was prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorney Alyssa Claseman and Senior Deputy District Attorney Lucy Durst.
