Two Shot in Chiloquin, Suspect Arrested on Attempted Murder Charges
Both victims were hospitalized in stable condition as investigators located a vehicle tied to the shooting and followed community tips that led to an arrest.
CHILOQUIN, Ore. — Two people were hospitalized with gunshot wounds and a 22-year-old man has been arrested following a shooting Friday afternoon in Chiloquin, according to the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched at approximately 1:30 p.m. July 17 to a reported shooting near the intersection of West Schonchin Street and South Lalo Avenue.
When deputies and Klamath County Fire District 1 personnel arrived, they located two gunshot victims, identified as 23-year-old Matthew Orcutt and 27-year-old Decole Hernandez, both of Chiloquin.
Both were transported by ambulance to Sky Lakes Medical Center. The sheriff’s office said both victims were listed in stable condition.
The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from Oregon State Police, continued investigating the shooting into the evening.
Investigators later located the vehicle allegedly used in connection with the shooting off Park Avenue in Chiloquin. According to the sheriff’s office, additional investigation and tips from members of the community ultimately led to the arrest of 22-year-old Damian Scardino of La Pine.
Scardino was arrested on two counts of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.
The sheriff’s office thanked the Chiloquin community for its cooperation and assistance during the investigation.
