Two U.S. Forest Service employees were safely released after being held at gunpoint for roughly 15 hours near Gumboot Lake. A father and son surrendered following an overnight multi-agency response involving the FBI, local sheriff’s offices and federal tactical teams.

Nearly five years after the Lava Fire burned across the northern slopes of Mount Shasta, the Shasta-Trinity National Forest says crews have planted more than 1.47 million seedlings across 2,769 acres as part of a long-term reforestation effort.

Shasta-Trinity National Forest officials plan to conduct multiple prescribed burns November 17–21, weather permitting. The burns, spanning districts from McCloud to Trinity Lake, are designed to reduce hazardous fuels and improve forest health.
