SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. — A traffic stop along Interstate 5 in Siskiyou County led to the seizure of more than 2,200 pounds of illegally transported marijuana and the arrest of a 36-year-old man, according to the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office.
On Wednesday, October 21, a sheriff's sergeant traveling northbound on Interstate 5 noticed a pickup truck pulling a U-Haul trailer and driving erratically.
The sergeant stopped the vehicle and contacted the driver, identified as Omar Jacob Gonzalez, 36. During a subsequent probable cause search of the truck and trailer, the sergeant discovered dozens of large black bags filled with marijuana.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the marijuana lacked the required certifications identifying legally produced cannabis products.
Gonzalez was arrested on suspicion of violating California Health and Safety Code sections 11360(a) and 11359(b), involving the transportation and possession of marijuana for sale. He was booked into the Siskiyou County Jail.
A follow-up inventory of the bags determined that the trailer contained approximately 2,254 pounds of marijuana, which authorities identified as black-market cannabis.
The Sheriff's Office did not disclose where the marijuana originated, its intended destination, or an estimated street value for the seizure.
