Medford Felon Indicted in Guns, Silencers and Explosive Device Case
Federal prosecutors say the investigation later grew to include threats against a witness and a vehicle explosion.

MEDFORD, Ore. — What began with a witness reporting guns being thrown from a Medford residence has grown into a federal case involving nine firearms, homemade silencers, threats against a witness, and an explosive device detonated at that witness’s home.
A federal grand jury in Medford has returned a superseding indictment against 32-year-old Michael Scott Beugli, charging him with possessing firearms as a convicted felon, possessing unregistered firearm silencers, and possessing an unregistered destructive device.
According to federal court documents cited by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon, the investigation began Feb. 24 when a witness reported seeing Beugli throwing firearms out of his Medford residence.
Beugli, who has a prior felony conviction and is prohibited from possessing firearms, allegedly left the property before law enforcement arrived.
Investigators subsequently recovered nine firearms and what prosecutors described as additional homemade silencers from the residence. Photos released with the federal announcement show the collection of firearms investigators say was recovered during the case.

But prosecutors say the investigation did not end there.
About a month later, Beugli allegedly sent threatening messages to the same witness.
Then, on March 25, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded after an explosive device detonated in a vehicle at the witness’s residence.
Security-camera images released by federal prosecutors show the vehicle before and during the apparent explosion, with flames visible around the vehicle and nearby structure.
Investigators said Beugli was later found nearby inside a home containing similar devices and explosive materials. Prosecutors allege he had not registered any silencers or destructive devices with ATF as required by federal law.
Photos included with the Justice Department release show investigators recovered what appear to be multiple pyrotechnic or explosive components, containers of materials, and other devices as part of the investigation.

Beugli initially appeared in federal court Aug. 17 on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He pleaded not guilty and was ordered detained.
On Monday, he was arraigned on the superseding indictment and again pleaded not guilty. He remains detained pending trial.
If convicted, federal prosecutors say Beugli faces up to 15 years in federal prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
The ATF is investigating the case in coordination with the Medford Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Ashland Police Department, and Oregon State Police.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sara T. Shaw is prosecuting the case.
