Macdoel Man Found Shot Dead, SCSO Investigating

MACDOEL, Calif. — Siskiyou County detectives are investigating a fatal shooting after a man was found dead inside a Macdoel residence Saturday evening.

A Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the home around 7:28 p.m. Sept. 26 after a report of a deceased person.

When the deputy entered the residence, authorities say he found an adult man who had suffered gunshot wounds.

 
 

The discovery prompted the deputy to contact the Sheriff’s Office Detectives Unit and begin a criminal investigation.

The victim was later identified as 63-year-old Michael Emmett Hurlburt of Macdoel. His family has been notified.

SCSO has not released information about what may have led to the shooting, whether investigators have identified a suspect, or whether anyone else was inside the residence when deputies arrived.

 
 

The case remains under active investigation.
