JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — A coordinated law enforcement operation targeting a drug trafficking organization brought an increased police presence to several Jackson County communities Wednesday, including tactical vehicles and a helicopter.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said local, state, and federal agencies were involved in the Sept. 23 operation, which included the simultaneous service of multiple search warrants.
Law enforcement activity was reported at residences and businesses in Medford, Central Point, Eagle Point, Rogue River, and Jacksonville.
One of the more visible parts of the operation involved a helicopter near West Main Street and Hanley Road. JCSO said the aircraft was connected to the service of a federal search warrant.
Authorities have not released the locations of the other properties involved, the identities of people connected to the investigation, or details about what led investigators to seek the warrants.
JCSO said there was no known ongoing threat to the public, though people were asked to stay away from properties where officers were continuing to secure and investigate scenes.
The sheriff’s office described Wednesday’s activity as part of an investigation into a drug trafficking organization but has not said what drugs are involved, how many people are under investigation, whether arrests have been made, or what evidence may have been seized.
