KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — A woman has been arrested in connection with an early-morning hit-and-run in Klamath Falls that left a man seriously injured and a dog dead in the roadway.

Klamath Falls Police Department officers were called to the 2700 block of Broadmore Street at approximately 4:19 a.m. Oct. 2 after receiving a report of a man who may have needed medical assistance.

When officers arrived, they found the injured man and a deceased dog in the roadway.

Police said physical evidence recovered at the scene indicated that a vehicle had struck the man and then left the area. The vehicle was not immediately located.

Detectives took over the investigation and spent the following days working to identify the vehicle and the person responsible.

The investigation led officers to a residence in the 6800 block of Waggoner Street, where detectives served a search warrant Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Shotwell was booked on charges of felony hit-and-run and first-degree animal abuse.

KFPD did not identify the injured man or provide an update on his condition in its release. A fundraiser later created by his family identifies him as Robert and says he remains in intensive care with a critical brain injury.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police said additional charges are possible.
