Reno Driver Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 139

CHP says a Toyota Tacoma crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a Ram pickup south of the Tulelake Agricultural Station.

MODOC COUNTY, Calif. — A 24-year-old Reno man was killed Monday afternoon in a head-on crash on Highway 139 south of the Tulelake Agricultural Station, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP said officers responded to the crash at approximately 2:55 p.m. Oct. 6.

Investigators said the Reno man was driving a Toyota Tacoma northbound on Highway 139 while a 55-year-old woman from Adin was driving a Ram 2500 southbound.

For reasons still under investigation, CHP said the Tacoma driver lost control and crossed into the southbound lane, where the two pickups collided head-on.

The Tacoma driver suffered major injuries and died at the scene.

The Ram driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Photos released by CHP show both vehicles with extensive damage. The Tacoma came to rest heavily damaged in the roadway, while the Ram overturned onto its side.

The speeds of both vehicles have not been determined.

CHP said the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been factors. The names of the drivers were not released.
