KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — Firefighters rescued a dog and searched a Klamath Falls home Sunday after receiving reports that the resident may still be inside as flames burned through part of the structure.

Klamath County Fire District 1 responded to the reported structure fire on Lincoln Street, where several bystanders reported that approximately half of the residence was on fire.

Crews were told while responding that it was unknown whether the homeowner remained inside. Firefighters arrived within four minutes and began applying water to the exterior to slow the spread.

The first arriving captain completed a full assessment of the structure and identified a basement before crews moved inside.

Firefighters then made an interior attack while additional crews searched the residence for occupants. The search confirmed no one was inside.

During the operation, firefighters found a dog at the rear of the residence. The animal was safely removed and released to the Klamath Falls Police Department.

KCFD1 responded with 16 personnel. Klamath 9-1-1, Klamath Falls Police, Avista Utilities, and Pacific Power also assisted with the response.

Fire officials reminded residents to call 9-1-1 immediately when a fire is discovered and to provide dispatchers with as much information as possible, including whether anyone may still be inside.
