MEDFORD, Ore. — A man wanted in connection with a Medford burglary involving stolen firearms was arrested Monday afternoon after a SWAT response and standoff at a home on Grandview Drive, according to the Medford Police Department.
Police identified the suspect as 44-year-old Richard Estrada Jr.
According to MPD, detectives were investigating a case from Wednesday, July 1, in which a suspect had burglarized a home in the 1300 block of Lawnridge Street and stolen multiple items, including multiple firearms.
Investigators determined there was probable cause to arrest Estrada in connection with the burglary.
Detectives first attempted to contact Estrada near a residence on North Keene Way Drive, police said, but he fled on a bicycle through nearby neighborhoods. MPD said Estrada eventually ended up in the area of Inner Circle off Brookhurst Street, where officers lost sight of him and were unable to find him at that time.
At about 9 a.m. Monday, July 6, detectives confirmed Estrada was at a residence in the 1800 block of Grandview Drive, according to police.
MPD said officers surrounded the house and evacuated the occupants. Believing Estrada was still inside, the Medford Police Department SWAT team was activated and responded to the scene.
During the standoff, police said multiple rounds of chemical irritants were deployed into the residence.
At about 12:45 p.m., Estrada exited the residence and was arrested without incident, according to MPD.
Police said Estrada will be lodged at the Jackson County Jail on charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree theft and multiple other charges stemming from the incidents.
All roads in the area have reopened.
Suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
