Mother, Three Children Killed in Eagle Point RV Fire
Investigators say the fire appears accidental as the cause remains under investigation

EAGLE POINT, Ore. — A mother and three children younger than 10 were killed Sunday when a fifth wheel camper caught fire in rural Eagle Point, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon received a report of the structure fire at approximately 12:47 p.m. Aug. 9 in the 600 block of Leafwood Drive.
Before firefighters arrived, the camper had become fully engulfed with four family members trapped inside.
The mother and three children died as a result of the fire. One other family member escaped with minor injuries.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Jackson County Fire District 3, and Oregon Department of Forestry firefighters responded as the fire began spreading toward nearby structures and wildland.
Firefighters extinguished the fire before it could spread into nearby forest land.
Southern Oregon Public Safety Chaplains also responded to provide support services.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. At this preliminary stage, investigators believe the fire was a non-criminal accident.
The case remains open pending autopsies and forensic identification.
Due to the nature of the incident, the Sheriff’s Office said the identities of the victims will not be released.
