DUII Head-On Crash Seriously Injures Two; Driver at 2.5x Legal Limit

JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — A Saturday night drive on West Griffin Creek Road ended with two people seriously injured, both trapped inside mangled vehicles, and one driver arrested for DUII.
The head-on crash happened around 7:41 p.m. in rural Medford.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office investigators say a 34-year-old woman was driving a 2025 Toyota RAV4 at high speed when she crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a 2009 Toyota Highlander.
The force of the collision left both drivers trapped.
Medford Fire crews had to extricate them from the wreckage before Mercy Flights transported both patients to a local hospital with serious injuries.
JCSO says a trauma blood draw later showed the RAV4 driver had a blood alcohol content of .20% — two and a half times Oregon’s legal limit and was arrested for DUII.
Because of the severity of the crash, the Jackson County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team responded to investigate.
The preliminary investigation points to speed and the RAV4 crossing into the opposite lane, but deputies have not said why the vehicle crossed the centerline.
The Sheriff’s Office has also not released additional information about either driver’s condition.
Crash comes before Labor Day enforcement push
The timing of the crash adds weight to a warning law enforcement agencies were already preparing to deliver ahead of Labor Day weekend.
JCSO says additional deputies and officers will be on the road during a multi-agency DUII enforcement effort, specifically watching for impaired drivers.
“If you drive impaired, you risk being stopped and arrested,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies will be watching for signs such as reckless or erratic driving, speeding, and failing to maintain a lane.
JCSO is urging anyone who plans to drink over the holiday weekend to arrange a sober ride before heading out, whether that means a designated driver, taxi, or rideshare.
Drivers who see someone they believe may be impaired are encouraged to call 911.
For the two people involved in Saturday’s crash, the consequences were already very real.
What began as a drive along a rural Jackson County road ended with two badly damaged vehicles, two serious injuries, and another reminder of how quickly impaired driving can change lives.
